I have a tradition of Christmas lights at my house. Christmas lights on the eaves of the roof, on the arches around the front door and the garage door, and in the bushes. The lights in the bushes, of course, have to be secured, and preferably in a way that can be removed easily, and that doesn't harm the plant. These releasable cable ties are the answer. They're the right size for the job, and they can be reused, year-to-year, which keeps a certain amount of plastic out of the local landfill.
The only real drawback is that releasing a hundred or more of these, all over the course of less than an hour, gets to be a bit hard on the fingertips (especially when one already has dishpan hands from the holiday baking).
